Sony Cyber-shot DSC-g1 is another great digital camera recently released on the electronics market. Pentax SLR Camera Review - K200D

Like any other amateur photographer, I’ve been using point-and-shoot digital cameras for years. I’ve always wanted to get a digital SLR camera but it’s only now that I got the nerve and the money to finally get myself one. I read tons of reviews and articles on which digital SLR cameras would be best suited for a beginner such as myself, and I finally settled on getting a Pentax SLR camera, the K200D.

I have several reasons for choosing the 10.2-megapixel Pentax K200D. Below are some of them.

According to Pentax, their K200D is the only SLR camera in its class that is environmentally sealed. I don’t really plan on testing it out, but hey, it’s good to know that my camera has environmental sealing. Another reason is that the K200D allows you to save RAW and high-quality JPEG images at the same time. The other models I looked at and considered didn’t have this feature and only allowed RAW and medium JPEG simultaneous image-saving.

I also found that the Pentax K200D had excellent build quality. Many of the reviews I read from Nikon, Canon, and other brand users complained of flimsy camera bodies, while the K200D felt tank-like in its build quality. And when I tried out several entry-level digital SLRs in different stores, I simply had to agree. Even the K200D preview I read from Popular Photography mentioned something about the camera’s body resembling the durability and sturdiness of a tank.

A lot of people may disagree with me on this, but I actually like the fact that the K200D uses AA batteries. Some people see this as a downside, but I think 2500mha AA batteries work just fine and they also come cheap. So if I ever run out of battery wherever I am, I can just go to any store and get new AA batteries. The K200D also supports virtually all Pentax-made lens. I know this doesn’t mean that I’ll get all the features, but the lens-mounting consistency was a plus point for me. And the fact that it has in-body stabilization means that it can accommodate any lens that I buy for the camera’s system.

The APS-C sensor also helped me narrow down my search. Specifically, this feature made me decide to discount Olympus SLR cameras because they didn’t have the APS-C sensor. The menu options and settings are relatively easy to understand, plus the manual they give you is also helpful in teaching you how to execute commands and perform different functions. So far, the K200D has been great in taking pictures in low light settings. And I’ve also tested it for outdoor photography and came up with great looking shots. If you’re also thinking of bumping up your photography from point-and-shoot compact digital cameras to digital SLRs, I recommend you put the K200D in your models-to-consider list.
